Course Details:
The SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) is a multiple-choice test designed for High School students to assess the standard of their school learning and is used in determining their eligibility for entrance to universities in the USA. The SAT consists of a Reading Test, a Writing and Language Test, a Math Test
and an optional Essay. SAT requires a high level of English and Math literacy and therefore progress and time required for successful study will depend on a student’s starting levels of English and English vocabulary and/or Math ability.
Reading: personalized guidance in the study of Literature, Academic and Science based passages and questions from previous SAT tests in order to develop and practice the student’s comprehension and vocabulary in analyzing a writer’s meaning, techniques, purpose, arguments, implications and inferences.
Writing & Language: personalized guidance in the study and analysis of informational passages and questions from previous SAT tests in order to develop and practice the student’s skill in improving the quality of writing through the expression of ideas and in recognizing and correcting errors in grammar, sentence structure, word choice and punctuation. No actual writing is involved in this test.
Math: practical instruction and guidance in solving High School graduation-level Math problems both with and without a calculator, and practice based on questions from previous SAT tests.
Essay: personalized guidance in writing an academic essay, based on previous SAT tests, that discusses a passage by using precise language to present a clear and logical analysis which uses supporting facts, examples and reasoning to connect ideas and evidence and utilizes stylistic or persuasive elements to add power to the ideas expressed.
NOTE: Study for the Reading and Writing & Language sections may be combined in one course, however the Math and Essay sections are separate courses.
